CoolSculpting with Tatler's Top Doctor

CoolSculpting (based on a process called cryolipolysis) was the world’s first licensed fat-freezing treatment having been registered by the FDA back in 2010. As the first device specifically designed to reduce fat without surgery, the treatment’s popularity has grown with now more than 8 million treatments having been performed worldwide

CoolSculpting is therefore considered to be the world’s leading non-invasive fat freezing procedure and ideal for body sculpting and the reduction of stubborn areas of fat.

At Berkshire Aesthetics we have carried out thousands of cryolipolysis treatments making it our most popular body treatment. Importantly, all of our CoolSculpting treatments are performed under the direct supervision of Dr. Langdon. This level of care ensures the highest level of patient safety and the best possible treatment outcomes.

At Berkshire Aesthetics, fat freezing is our most popular treatment because we prioritize both safety and treatment results which can be enhanced through combination treatments with Emsculpt, EmtoneExilis and Vanquish to name a few.

Our approach is unique, with few other clinics providing an equivalent level of medical oversight. We have many happy patients who are based in the UK but also an elite and growing international reputation, with many patients choosing to visit our clinic from across Europe.

Why Choose Berkshire Aesthetics?

Berkshire Aesthetics is uniquely placed as the leading clinic for fat-freezing treatments. Our medical director is one of the best for non-surgical body treatments. She also works with global colleagues on topics such as the effective use and safety aspects of the CoolSculpting treatment.

Due to her extensive hands-on experience, combined with her training in surgery, Dr Langdon delivers exceptional treatment outcomes for her patients. While we have many patients who are local to the clinic we also have many who travel internationally. With two machines, including the all new CoolSculpting Elite we are able to perform the procedure in half the time. Best of all, CoolSculpting Elite consistently delivers results faster than the legacy system.

As well as treating patients, our clinic provides a complications referral service to all other UK clinics supporting and advising others on how to safely perform the treatment and deal with any issues which might arise. For patients who prioritise safety and results from their treatments then Berkshire Aesthetics is

A Unique Approach to the Treatment

Dr Langdon has also developed her own unique approach to the treatment called the CoolCodes® and is therefore asked to speak internationally on fat freezing best practice.

Alongside our CoolSculpting treatment we also offer a number of other amazing body treatments which can further enhance your CoolSculpting results. You can learn more about our full range of body treatments here.

Are all Fat Freezing Treatments the Same?

CoolSculpting is the World’s #1 and most elite non-invasive fat reduction procedure. This is because it is both FDA cleared and CE Medical Marked. These certifications mean the treatment is backed by significant testing and research.

There are more than 100 clinical studies that not only prove that it is safe but it works. However, please be wary of devices that claim to be fat freezing as the technology is based on CoolSculpting but has not undergone the same rigorous testing or development as the original CoolSculpting device from Allergan.

So popular is the CoolSculpting treatment that it has become a commonly used term like Xerox for photocopying or Hoover for vacuums. Importantly, not all clinics claiming to offer CoolSculpting are the same. If you are in any doubt as to the legitimacy of a clinic please check the Allergan CoolSculpting clinic finder here.

What do our Patients Love?

Dr Langdon personally oversees every fat freezing treatment. Therefore, our patients not only achieve great results but are confident that their safety is a priority.

Berkshire Aesthetics is one of the leading fat freezing clinics in the UK. This is because we not only deliver a high number of treatments but all treatments are supervised by a medical doctor.

Our focus is on providing our patients the best possible treatment outcomes in the safest possible clinical setting.

Who is it for?

Cryolipolysis is not a weight-loss treatment but a body sculpting procedure. It, therefore, works best on those who are close to their ideal weight and simply want to target stubborn areas of fat that resist efforts through diet and exercise.

Patients who enjoy a healthy diet and regular exercise will see the greatest benefit however, those getting in shape will find the treatment is often the ‘kick start’ they need.

Is CoolSculpting Safe?

CoolSculpting has been the most popular cosmetic treatment for more than a decade. But since supermodel Linda Evangelista launched a lawsuit against the company that created the procedure, claiming that it left her “brutally disfigured” and “did the opposite of what it promised”, many questions have been raised about CoolSculpting.

In truth, CoolSculpting is one of the most researched non-surgical treatments. While all medical procedures carry risk, when having CoolSculpting you are not only supported by the medical director overseeing your treatment but by AbbVie who provide some of the most comprehensive support of any pharmaceutical company in the world.

The decision to undergo a medical aesthetic procedure should not be done so lightly and every patient should fully research the treatment, the practice, and the practitioner.

Which Areas Can CoolSculpting Treat?

CoolSculpting Treatment Areas Fat Freezing

CoolSculpting can be used to treat many areas of the body with fat freezing being very popular to the abdomen and flanks as well as the:

Arms – the back of the arms or the area of the tricep is a common concern. This can be more pronounced around menopause as both the loss of muscle and an increase in the fat deposit creates what some call ‘bingo wings’.

Back – this area is most often a concern for women with concerns in this area accentuated when wearing a bra or swimsuit.

Banana roll – these are folds (pockets) that accumulate just under your butt. These can happen to anyone but are more pronounced in those who work out a lot and have firm strong legs.

Bra roll – similar to the back, the ‘bra roll’ is the area under the arm that can bulge over the side of the bra.

Chin – the area under the chin is a popular treatment for both men and women. This area called the submental can increase with weight gain, but you don’t have to be overweight for this area to enlarge. Genetics or looser skin resulting from aging may also cause the fat deposit in this area to increase.

Knees – similar to the banana roll, fat pockets which are just above the knees and can be more pronounced in those with toned legs.

Mons pubis – this is a pad of fatty tissue that covers the pubic bone. It’s sometimes referred to as the mons, or the mons veneris in females. Treatment of this area is highly specialised and it is best to take extra care when treating it. Our doctor is one of the few in the world to offer a treatment with CoolSculpting for this area.

Thighs – CoolSculpting can be used to treat the inner and the outer thighs. Please note CoolSculpting is not used to treat the front or the back of the thigh except for the smaller areas above the knee or the banana roll.

Importantly, at Berkshire Aesthetics your treatment is planned by Dr. Langdon, who initially trained in Plastic surgery at London’s top teaching hospitals including, Guy’s & St Thomas’ as well as Great Ormond Street Children’s’ Hospital.

Her understanding of the human body and her extensive hands-on experience with CoolSculpting means her results are not only effective but aesthetic pleasing. Her skill means she is able to offer treatment for additional areas not available at other clinics including mons pubis. Learn about her approach to treating the mons pubis in her recent IG interview with Francesca White of the Beauty Tringle.

CoolSculpting Research

Our doctor promotes safe practice, better regulation and consumer education in aesthetics and particularly issues relating to CoolSculpting. Here are a selection of journal articles published by Dr Selena Langdon on the topic of fat freezing and body contouring.

Frequently Asked CoolSculpting Questions

Fat freezing (cryolipolysis) is used to contour and shape the body by removing stubborn areas of fat. These stubborn areas are more common as we age as the body natural retains more fat. The treatment is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle but is a great addition to it. With fat freezing you can easily target the unwanted areas.

CoolSculpting is not a weight loss treatment but the most elite of all body sculpting procedures. It is ideal for those who are close to their ideal weight but who have stubborn areas of fat which resist diet and exercise. Resistant areas of fat are common and completely natural because as we age our bodies store more fat.

Areas safe to treat include:

  • abdomen
  • flanks
  • upper arms
  • back
  • inner & outer thighs
  • mons pubis
  • male chest
  • bra roll
  • top of thigh (below buttock)
  • above the knee
  • chin

The treatment works by delivering precise controlled cooling to target fat cells found underneath the skin. During the procedure an applicator is applied onto the treatment area. The treatment area is pulled into the applicator which is then cooled  to between -9 degrees and -11 degrees Celsius for 35 to 45 minutes. This process cause the fat cells to die which are then eliminated via a process called apoptosis.

Importantly, once the treated fat cells are gone they are gone for good.

CoolSculpting was invented by Harvard scientists in the early 2000s having observed that some children who ace ice lollies developed dimples. The team undertook several years of research before gaining approval for their CoolSculpting treatment in 2010. Since this time the treatment has developed and evolved to become the most sought after non-surgical fat reduction procedure in the world.

For those wanting to contour their body and remove unwanted areas of fat that resist diet and exercise, fat freezing is the ideal choice.

The best candidates are those who have noticeable budges of fat despite efforts made to remove these through diet and exercise.

Importantly, the procedure is not a weight loss solution but a non-surgical alternative to liposuction  without the downtime.

Dr Langdon assesses every patient and will create an individualised treatment plan tailored to their specific goals.

The length of the fat freezing procedure depends on the size and number of areas being treated. It might be preferable in some instances to split the treatment over a number of sessions.

As the applicator is placed on to the skin you will feel pressure as the vacuum pulls the skin inside. The cooling will then begin and you will feel intense cold until the skin fully numbs.

The treatment is performed either sitting or lying so the patient can fully relax.

Patients use the time to read, work on their laptops or even nap during the treatment. We also provide the access to Netflix or Amazon Prime so you can catch up on the latest films or boxsets.

The number of sessions will be determined at a consultation. With CoolSculpting the results achieved from just one session are for many sufficient to achieve their desired outcome. It is possible to repeat the treatment and we do have patients who return often to ‘touch up’ areas of focus on different areas.

No special preparation is  required. It is important to make sure you are in good health prior to treatment as the results are best for those already following a healthy lifestyle.

We advise patients to avoid any foods or medication which have anti-inflammatory properties as these can interfere with the treatment outcome.

The procedure is FDA-cleared and has over 100 clinical studies proving its safety and effectiveness for the treatment of non-surgical fat reduction.

At Berkshire Aesthetics the treatment is performed under the direct supervision of Dr Langdon who is one a few global experts and a member of the AMI Medical Faculty for CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure and involves no downtime; typically you can return to your normal activities immediately. The treated areas will feel cold to touch any will have minimal redness but this will subside within a couple of hours after the treatment. Some patients will experience some numbness and itching in the area treated which can persist for up to three weeks. This side effect is well documented and will resolve without further intervention.

The CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Patients often return to work on the same day after a CoolSculpting treatment is completed.

Several factors will influence whether loose skin is possible after fat loss. You skin will be fully assessed by our doctor prior to treatment to ensure that any risk of loose skin is minimised. For the majority of patients the treatment does not result in loose skin as the treatment does cause some inflammation to the skin cells which results in the skins natural repair process. The outcome is a boost in collagen and elastin. This boost means the skin tightens along with the reduction in fat cells to leave the area treated appearing natural as it would after weight loss from moderate dieting.

Cryolipolysis is a non-surgical procedure which does not require medication, anaesthesia or cuts. This means that the risk of complications and side effects is much lower when compared to more invasive procedures such as liposuction.

Some of the possible complications include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Sensitivity
  • Skin Redness
  • Localised pain
  • Lowered sensation in the treatment area.

Dr Langdon will discuss these in detail with you during the consultation. As she is on hand during the treatment and at anytime afterwards she is able to help manage any concerns you might have. We encourage patients to contact the clinic immediately should they have even the slightest concern.

Everyone responds differently to the treatment so it is not possible to say when the results will occur.  Some patients see changes in just a few weeks whereas others might not see any progress for a few months.

After your treatment we  ask you to return to the clinic 16 weeks later for a follow up and to review the progress of your treatment.

CoolSculpting targets fat cells causing the cells to die. Our bodies have a fixed number of fat cells and once the cells are removed they are gone for good.

Patients are advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle after completing their treatment. Drinking plenty of water is also very important in helping with the drainage of the lymphatic system.

We also advise patients to avoid any foods and medication containing anti-inflammatories for at least two weeks.
