Why we start with a consultation
Every treatment begins with a medical assessment. We need to understand your medical history, current health, skin condition and concerns before prescribing any procedure. This protects your safety and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate for you.
During your consultation, Dr Langdon will explain what the treatment can realistically achieve, any risks specific to you, and whether an alternative might be more appropriate.
All bookings are subject to our Booking Conditions.

Clinical overview
SkinPen Precision is an FDA-cleared, medical-grade microneedling device that uses fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This triggers the body's natural wound-healing response across three phases: inflammation, proliferation and remodelling. During the proliferation phase, new collagen and elastin fibres are laid down. Over the weeks and months that follow, these fibres mature and reorganise, leading to gradual improvements in skin texture, tone and firmness. Unlike some energy-based devices (such as lasers), SkinPen does not rely on thermal energy, which means the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is lower. This makes it a suitable option for a wider range of skin tones, though suitability is always confirmed during consultation. The depth of needling is adjustable, allowing us to tailor treatment intensity to the specific concern and area being treated. Deeper settings are used for scarring; shallower passes for general texture and fine lines. SkinPen can also be combined with other treatments such as polynucleotides or medical-grade serums to enhance results where clinically appropriate.
Key Benefits
- Stimulates your own collagen and elastin production for natural skin improvement
- FDA-cleared device with established safety profile
- Effective for acne scarring, fine lines, enlarged pores and uneven texture
- Adjustable needle depth allows treatment to be tailored to your concern and skin type
- Lower risk of pigmentation changes compared to some laser treatments, making it suitable for more skin tones
- Can be combined with polynucleotides or serums to enhance results
Suitable For
- Acne scarring (atrophic, ice-pick, boxcar or rolling scars)
- Fine lines and early signs of skin ageing
- Enlarged pores and rough skin texture
- Uneven skin tone or mild sun damage
- Stretch marks (body microneedling)
- Patients who want to improve skin quality without heat-based treatments
- Darker skin tones where laser may carry higher pigmentation risk (assessed individually)
Not Suitable For
- Active acne, eczema, psoriasis or rosacea flare in the treatment area (treatment should be delayed until settled)
- Active skin infection, herpes simplex or open wounds
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Blood clotting disorders or anticoagulant medication (requires medical review)
- History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring (assessed individually)
- Recent isotretinoin use (typically wait 6 months after completion)
- Unrealistic expectations of immediate or dramatic transformation
Final suitability is confirmed during a medical consultation and assessment.
When we don't recommend it
- If your concern is primarily volume loss or skin laxity, microneedling alone is unlikely to achieve your goals and we may recommend alternative or combination treatments.
- If you have active inflammatory skin conditions in the area, we will delay treatment until the skin is settled.
- If you have recently used isotretinoin, we typically wait at least 6 months before microneedling.
- If your scarring is deep or complex, we may recommend a combination approach (e.g., microneedling with CO2 laser or other treatments) rather than microneedling alone.
- If a different treatment is likely to produce better results for your specific concern, we will discuss alternatives honestly.
What Happens During Treatment
- 1Clinical consultation and skin assessment, including medical history, medications and your goals
- 2Discussion of expected outcomes, limitations, risks and alternatives
- 3Topical anaesthetic cream is applied for 20-30 minutes before treatment to minimise discomfort
- 4The SkinPen device is passed across the treatment area at the appropriate depth setting for your concern
- 5A calming serum or mask may be applied after treatment depending on your skin
- 6Post-treatment instructions and aftercare products are provided
Downtime & Aftercare
- Skin will appear red and feel warm immediately after treatment, similar to moderate sunburn
- Redness typically settles within 24-72 hours depending on treatment intensity
- Mild swelling, dryness and light flaking are common in the days following treatment
- Avoid active skincare (retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, vitamin C) for 3-5 days post-treatment
- Avoid makeup for 12-24 hours after treatment
- Use SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun exposure while skin is healing
- Avoid swimming, saunas, heavy exercise and alcohol for 24-48 hours
- If you have unexpected or worsening symptoms, contact the clinic
Results Timeline
- Initial glow and improved skin feel may be noticed within the first week as the skin heals.
- Collagen remodelling is a gradual process; most patients see progressive improvement over 4-12 weeks.
- For scarring, a course of 3-6 sessions (spaced 4-6 weeks apart) is usually recommended for best results.
- Skin texture and tone continue to improve for up to 6 months after a course as collagen matures.
How Long Results May Last
- •Results from collagen stimulation are long-lasting, as new collagen integrates into the skin structure.
- •Maintenance sessions (1-2 per year) can help sustain and build on results.
- •Lifestyle factors (sun exposure, skincare routine, smoking) affect how well results are maintained.
