Cutera Excel V+ Guide
A doctor-led overview of laser treatment for facial vessels, redness and rosacea pathways
Book ConsultationCutera Excel V+ is a vascular-focused laser platform that targets visible blood vessels and redness with two wavelengths. In practical terms, this means we can treat a broad range of vessel sizes and depths across the cheeks, nose, chin and periocular area under doctor-led assessment.
At Berkshire Aesthetics, Excel V+ is commonly used for rosacea-associated redness, facial thread veins, cherry angiomas and selected pigment patterns where vascular contribution is significant. Treatment planning is personalised, and not every redness concern is best managed by a single laser session.
Who This Is Usually Best For
- Diffuse redness and flushing patterns associated with rosacea
- Thread veins and spider veins on the face
- Cherry angiomas and selected benign vascular lesions
- Periorbital veins in carefully selected patients
- Red post-inflammatory marks after acne (selected cases)
Final suitability depends on diagnosis, skin type, medication history and whether inflammation is currently active.
Excel V+ vs IPL: When We Use Each
Excel V+ is often selected when vessel targeting and precision are priority goals. For broader diffuse colour correction, mixed photodamage, or multi-module planning, we may instead choose or combine treatment with the Lumenis M22 platform.
If you are comparing options, read our Lumenis M22 IPL and ResurFX guide and rosacea laser treatment guide.
Downtime, Recovery and Safety
Most patients experience short-term redness and mild swelling for 24 to 72 hours. Vascular endpoints can occasionally create temporary darkening or a "bruised" appearance in treated vessel tracks, particularly where higher fluence is required.
Sun protection is essential before and after treatment. We do not treat over active infection, significant tan, or where contraindications are present. All patients receive written aftercare and safety-net advice.

Cutera Excel V+ FAQs
- What does Cutera Excel V+ treat?
- Excel V+ is a vascular-focused laser platform used for diffuse redness and flushing associated with rosacea, facial thread veins and spider veins, cherry angiomas and selected benign vascular lesions, periorbital veins in carefully selected patients, and red post-inflammatory marks after acne. Diagnosis and suitability are confirmed at consultation.
- How many sessions of Excel V+ will I need?
- Most vascular protocols require a course of sessions rather than a single treatment. Thread veins often need 2–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart; diffuse rosacea redness may require 3–6 sessions depending on severity. Maintenance sessions are sometimes recommended to sustain results.
- Is there downtime after Excel V+?
- Most patients experience short-term redness and mild swelling for 24 to 72 hours. Where higher fluence is required for larger vessels, treated areas may look temporarily darker or bruised as the vessel resolves. Makeup is usually fine within 24 hours once the skin has settled.
- Does Excel V+ hurt?
- Most patients describe the sensation as a quick snap or warm pinch with each pulse. The Excel V+ has an integrated cooling system that significantly reduces discomfort. Topical numbing cream can be used if requested, though it is not usually required.
- Excel V+ vs IPL — which is better for redness?
- They are complementary rather than directly competing. Excel V+ is often preferred when precise vessel-targeting is the priority (discrete thread veins, focal rosacea vessels). IPL platforms such as the Lumenis M22 are often better for broader diffuse photodamage and mixed-tone concerns. Many patients benefit from a staged combination.
- Is Excel V+ safe on all skin tones?
- Excel V+ is safe across a range of skin types when settings are chosen carefully. The risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation is higher in darker Fitzpatrick skin types (IV–VI) and in patients with a recent tan. We do not treat over active tan, active infection or where contraindications are present, and we adjust parameters to skin type.
- Will Excel V+ cure my rosacea?
- Excel V+ reduces visible redness and broken vessels but does not cure rosacea, which is a chronic inflammatory skin condition. Most patients see significant improvement in flushing and vascular components, but ongoing skincare, trigger management and periodic maintenance sessions are usually needed to sustain the result.
Why we start with a consultation
Every treatment begins with a medical assessment. We need to understand your medical history, current health, skin condition and concerns before prescribing any procedure. This protects your safety and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate for you.
During your consultation, your clinician will explain what the treatment can realistically achieve, any risks specific to you, and whether an alternative might be more appropriate. Consultations are carried out by our doctors or advanced aesthetic practitioners, depending on the treatment or concern being assessed.
All bookings are subject to our Booking Conditions.
