CoolSculpting

FDA-cleared fat freezing for targeted body contouring — no surgery, no downtime

Book Consultation

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical body contouring treatment that uses cryolipolysis — controlled cooling — to permanently destroy stubborn fat cells. It is FDA-cleared for nine treatment areas and is one of the most established non-invasive fat reduction technologies available.

At Berkshire Aesthetics in Maidenhead, CoolSculpting is delivered under the clinical oversight of Dr Selena Langdon — a member of the CoolSculpting Global Advisory Board, Allergan CoolSculpting Faculty, and a recognised UK complications expert for the technology.

CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss treatment. It is designed for patients close to their target weight who have localised pockets of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise. Suitability is always confirmed during a clinical consultation.

How CoolSculpting works

Freeze

A specially designed applicator draws tissue into a cup and cools fat cells to a temperature that triggers apoptosis (controlled cell death), while leaving surrounding skin, nerves and muscle unharmed.

Process

Over the following weeks, your body naturally processes and eliminates the crystallised fat cells through the lymphatic system. No surgery, needles or recovery time required.

Results

Visible fat reduction develops progressively over 2–3 months. Clinical studies show approximately 20–25% fat reduction per treatment cycle in the treated area. Treated fat cells are permanently eliminated.

Frequently asked questions

CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis — controlled cooling — to freeze and permanently destroy fat cells beneath the skin. The treated fat cells crystallise, die, and are naturally eliminated by your body over 2–3 months. Surrounding tissue, skin and nerves are not affected.
No. CoolSculpting is designed for targeted fat reduction in specific areas resistant to diet and exercise. It is not suitable for patients seeking overall weight loss. Ideal candidates are close to their target weight with localised, pinchable fat deposits.
CoolSculpting can treat the abdomen, flanks (love handles), inner and outer thighs, double chin, upper arms, bra fat, back fat, and the area beneath the buttocks. Different applicator sizes are used for each area.
Most patients see noticeable results after one session per area. Some areas may benefit from a second cycle for optimal results. Your clinician will advise on the recommended number of sessions during your consultation.
Results are long-lasting because the treated fat cells are permanently destroyed and do not regenerate. However, remaining fat cells can still enlarge if you gain significant weight, so maintaining a stable weight is important.
There is minimal to no downtime. Most patients return to normal activities immediately. You may experience temporary numbness, redness, swelling or mild tenderness, which typically resolves within a few days to weeks.
PAH is a rare complication where the treated area becomes firmer and larger rather than reducing. It occurs in approximately 0.02–0.05% of treatments. Dr Langdon is a recognised CoolSculpting complications expert and discusses this risk with every patient during consultation.
CoolSculpting starts from £245 per cycle. The total cost depends on the number of areas treated and cycles required, which is confirmed during your consultation. Multi-area packages are available.
CoolSculpting targets fat reduction only using cryolipolysis. Emsculpt Neo combines radiofrequency and HIFEM energy to simultaneously reduce fat and build muscle. Many patients benefit from combining both treatments. Your clinician will recommend the best approach for your goals.
Yes. CoolSculpting is commonly combined with Emsculpt Neo for a comprehensive body contouring approach — fat reduction followed by muscle toning. Other combinations may include Emtone for cellulite or Exilis for skin tightening. All combinations are planned during consultation.
CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared with an established safety profile. At Berkshire Aesthetics, treatments are carried out under the clinical oversight of Dr Selena Langdon, who is a member of the CoolSculpting Global Advisory Board and a recognised UK complications expert.
CoolSculpting is not suitable for those with cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria. It is also not appropriate for patients with obesity, active skin conditions in the treatment area, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Why we start with a consultation

Every treatment begins with a medical assessment. We need to understand your medical history, current health, skin condition and concerns before prescribing any procedure. This protects your safety and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate for you.

During your consultation, your clinician will explain what the treatment can realistically achieve, any risks specific to you, and whether an alternative might be more appropriate. Consultations are carried out by our doctors or advanced aesthetic practitioners, depending on the treatment or concern being assessed.
