How CoolSculpting treats a double chin
CoolSculpting uses the smaller CoolMini applicator, designed specifically for the submental (under-chin) area. It cools the fat to a precise temperature that triggers natural cell death while leaving the skin, nerves and muscle unharmed. Over the following weeks the body clears the treated fat cells, which do not return; results depend on a stable weight and vary by individual.
A double chin can be caused by submental fat, skin laxity, or both. CoolSculpting treats the fat component. If loose skin is the dominant issue, a skin-tightening approach such as Morpheus8 or Ultherapy may be more appropriate — which is why a clinical assessment comes first.
How much does CoolSculpting for a double chin cost?
CoolSculpting is priced per applicator cycle. At Berkshire Aesthetics, cycles start from £245. The under-chin area uses the smaller CoolMini applicator and usually needs 1–2 cycles, so a double-chin plan typically starts from around £245 to £490. Some patients have a further cycle 8–12 weeks later once the first result is visible.
| Plan | Typical cycles | Indicative cost |
|---|---|---|
| Single CoolMini cycle | 1 cycle | From £245 |
| Standard double-chin plan | 1–2 cycles | £245–£490 |
| With a second round | 2–4 cycles total | £490–£980 |
These are indicative ranges based on cycles from £245; your exact quote is confirmed at consultation. For how per-cycle pricing works across all areas, see our CoolSculpting cost guide or current treatment prices.
Results timeline
CoolSculpting results under the chin develop gradually. Every patient responds slightly differently, but the following reflects the typical pattern.
Your CoolMini cycle
The smaller CoolMini applicator is placed under the chin and draws the submental fat into a cup, cooling it for around 35–45 minutes. You feel intense cold and a pulling sensation for the first few minutes, then numbness. Most patients return to their day straight afterwards.
Settling in
Temporary numbness, swelling, tenderness and mild bruising under the chin are common and usually settle within a week or two. The area can feel firm or tingly for a little longer as sensation returns.
First visible change
The body clears the treated fat cells gradually. Most patients begin to see a cleaner jawline and reduced under-chin fullness from around six to eight weeks.
Final result
The full effect develops by 8–12 weeks. Because the cleared fat cells do not return, the result is long-lasting provided your weight stays stable. A second cycle may be advised for a further reduction.
Fat or skin laxity? Choosing the right approach
The most important question for a double chin is what is actually causing it. CoolSculpting is the right choice when the fullness is driven by fat. Where the skin under the chin is loose or crepey, skin-tightening treatments achieve more — Morpheus8 for combined tightening and mild fat reduction, or Ultherapy for deeper lifting of the jawline and neck.
Many patients have a mix of both, and a staged plan can address each in turn. For a side-by-side overview of every double chin option, see our double chin treatments page, and confirm the right route for you at a consultation.
Treatment pathways
Your pathway depends on whether fat, skin laxity, or both are driving the double chin. Below are the main options we offer for the chin and neck.

Why we start with a consultation
Every treatment begins with a medical assessment. We need to understand your medical history, current health, skin condition and concerns before prescribing any procedure. This protects your safety and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate for you.
During your consultation, your clinician will explain what the treatment can realistically achieve, any risks specific to you, and whether an alternative might be more appropriate. Consultations are carried out by our doctors or advanced aesthetic practitioners, depending on the treatment or concern being assessed.
