Cellenis Autologous BioFiller: A Complete Guide

A doctor-led patient guide to natural bio-filler treatment derived from your own blood

Cellenis is an autologous bio-filler — a volumising injectable made entirely from a patient’s own blood. In an aesthetic market dominated by synthetic hyaluronic acid fillers, Cellenis represents an alternative approach for patients who prefer a biocompatible, naturally derived product, or who have experienced sensitivities or reactions to synthetic fillers. Because the material is produced from your own tissue, the risk of allergic reaction is extremely low.

This guide explains how Cellenis works, what it can and cannot do, how it compares to both hyaluronic acid fillers and PRP, and how we use it at Berkshire Aesthetics in Maidenhead. It is reviewed by Dr Selena Langdon, Medical Director and GMC-registered doctor (GMC 6159259).

How Cellenis Is Made

Cellenis is produced at the point of treatment using your own blood. A small sample — similar in volume to a routine blood test — is drawn and placed in a sterile, single-use Cellenis kit. The sample is centrifuged to separate the plasma fraction, which is then heat-treated using a validated protocol to produce a soft, structured gel. The finished bio-filler is drawn into a syringe and injected directly, without any additional preservatives, stabilisers or synthetic materials.

The entire process takes place in a closed system within the clinic and takes around 30–40 minutes from blood draw to injection. Because the product is autologous, it cannot be prepared in advance or shared between patients. The resulting gel is biocompatible by definition — every protein and molecule in it comes from you.

Where Cellenis Works Best

Cellenis is used in areas where a soft, natural volumising effect is desirable and where biocompatibility is a priority.

Under-eye hollows (tear troughs)

The under-eye area is one of the most common and most rewarding indications for Cellenis. The thin skin of the tear trough can show swelling or visible product with some synthetic fillers. Cellenis offers a softer, lower-risk option in this delicate zone and is a particularly good choice for patients who want to avoid HA filler in this area.

Cheeks and mid-face

Cellenis can restore soft volume to the cheeks and mid-face, giving a subtle lifting and refreshing effect rather than dramatic contouring. Patients who want a natural-looking restoration rather than a sculpted change often prefer Cellenis over synthetic alternatives.

Lips

Lip treatment with Cellenis produces a subtle, soft enhancement. It is not a substitute for precise HA filler when well-defined shape is the goal, but for patients who want a natural softening and minor volumising, it is an appropriate option.

Jawline and fine lines

Cellenis can soften fine lines around the mouth and support the jawline. Because the effect is softer than HA filler, it is best used where the goal is skin quality and subtle smoothing rather than defined structural change.

Cellenis vs HA Fillers vs PRP

Cellenis sits between two better-known treatments: hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Understanding where each fits clarifies when Cellenis is the right choice.

Cellenis vs hyaluronic acid fillers

HA fillers such as Juvéderm, Restylane and Teoxane produce a predictable volumising effect that typically lasts 9–18 months and can be dissolved if needed using hyaluronidase. They are the right choice when precise shaping, projection or defined contouring is the goal. Cellenis produces a softer, more natural effect that lasts 6–12 months and cannot be dissolved — but carries an extremely low risk of allergic reaction, vascular issues in shallow tear-trough placement, or biofilm-related late complications. See our dermal fillers page for the alternative.

Cellenis vs PRP

PRP is a liquid rich in growth factors that stimulates the skin from within; it does not restore volume directly. Cellenis uses a different fraction of the blood to produce a structured gel that volumises. PRP and Cellenis are complementary rather than competing: PRP for skin quality and regeneration, Cellenis for natural volume restoration.

Cellenis vs polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are regenerative injectables derived from purified DNA fragments that stimulate fibroblast activity and tissue repair. They improve skin quality without adding volume. Cellenis works as a volumiser. In a typical treatment plan, polynucleotides and Cellenis can be combined — polynucleotides for skin quality, Cellenis for soft volume restoration.

Safety and Suitability

Because Cellenis is autologous, allergic and hypersensitivity reactions are extremely rare. The main practical safety considerations relate to blood health and technique.

Who is not suitable for Cellenis?

  • Patients with blood disorders or conditions affecting plasma or platelet quality
  • Patients on anticoagulant therapy (reviewed case by case; may require medical clearance)
  • Active infection or inflammation in the treatment area (treatment is postponed)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Patients whose goal is precise contouring or projection — HA filler is more appropriate

Common side effects

Swelling, bruising and mild tenderness at the injection sites are common and usually settle within 1–3 days. Temporary redness at the blood draw and injection sites can occur. Rare complications include infection, prolonged swelling, or an inflammatory reaction requiring clinical review.

Cellenis FAQs

What is Cellenis BioFiller?
Cellenis is an autologous bio-filler made entirely from your own blood. A small sample is drawn, centrifuged to separate the plasma fraction, and heat-processed to create a soft, biocompatible gel. The gel is then injected to restore volume in areas such as the cheeks, lips, jawline and under-eye hollows. Because the product is derived from your own tissue, the risk of allergic reaction is extremely low.
Is Cellenis the same as PRP?
No. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a liquid rich in growth factors that is injected to stimulate skin regeneration — it does not restore volume directly. Cellenis uses the plasma fraction of your blood to create a structured gel that acts as a natural volumiser. The two treatments have different purposes: PRP for skin quality and stimulation, Cellenis for natural volume restoration.
How long do Cellenis results last?
Results typically last 6–12 months, depending on the treatment area, individual factors and lifestyle. Because Cellenis is autologous, the gel is gradually reabsorbed by the body over this period. Many patients have a second session 4–8 weeks after the first to optimise the outcome, and then maintenance once or twice a year.
How does Cellenis compare to hyaluronic acid filler?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are synthetic gels that produce a predictable, longer-lasting volumising effect (typically 9–18 months) and are ideal where precise shaping is needed. Cellenis produces a softer, more natural volumising effect with a shorter duration (6–12 months) and carries an extremely low risk of allergic reaction because it is derived from your own blood. Cellenis is preferred by patients who want a biocompatible approach or who have had sensitivities to synthetic products; HA fillers remain the right choice when precise contouring is the priority.
Is Cellenis painful?
Topical anaesthetic is applied before injection to ensure comfort. The blood draw is similar to a routine blood test. Most patients find the overall procedure well-tolerated, with mild tenderness or pressure at injection points.
How many Cellenis sessions do I need?
Most patients achieve a good result with 1–2 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart. A single session may be enough for subtle correction; two sessions are typical for fuller restoration. A personalised plan is agreed at consultation based on your anatomy and goals.
Can Cellenis be used under the eyes?
Yes. Cellenis can be used in the tear-trough area because its biocompatible nature and soft consistency make it a suitable option for this delicate anatomy, where synthetic fillers carry higher risks of swelling or visibility. Suitability for the under-eye area is confirmed at a doctor-led consultation.
Is Cellenis suitable if I have had reactions to dermal fillers?
Cellenis is often appropriate for patients who have experienced reactions, nodules or sensitivities to synthetic fillers, because it is made entirely from your own blood. Your medical history and any prior reactions are reviewed during consultation to confirm suitability.
How much does Cellenis cost?
At Berkshire Aesthetics, Cellenis BioFiller is priced from £495 per session, with specific pricing confirmed at consultation based on the number of areas treated and whether one or two sessions are recommended.
What is the downtime after Cellenis?
Mild swelling and bruising at the injection sites are common and usually settle within 1–3 days. Most patients return to normal activities the same day. Heavy exercise, saunas and alcohol should be avoided for 24–48 hours.
