Julaine vs Dermal Fillers
Two fundamentally different approaches — building your own collagen vs adding volume directly
Book ConsultationJulaine and dermal fillers are both injectable treatments, but they work through entirely different mechanisms and address different concerns. Julaine (JULÄINE) is a PLLA collagen biostimulator that gradually triggers your body to produce new collagen over months. Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid (HA) gel to add immediate volume, contour facial features, and smooth lines. Understanding these differences is essential for choosing the right approach — or knowing when a combination of both delivers the best result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have both Julaine and dermal fillers?
Yes, and many patients benefit from this combination. Julaine improves overall skin quality and firmness through collagen stimulation, while dermal fillers restore targeted volume in specific areas. Your clinician will advise on timing and sequencing — typically we address structural collagen first, then refine with filler where needed.
Which lasts longer — Julaine or fillers?
Julaine typically produces longer-lasting results (12–24 months) because the collagen your body produces is genuine structural tissue. Dermal fillers are gradually metabolised by the body, with most lasting 6–18 months depending on the product, area treated, and individual metabolism. However, filler results are immediate while Julaine takes months to develop.
Will Julaine make me look “filled”?
No. This is one of the key differences. Julaine does not add volume — it stimulates your body to produce collagen, which improves firmness and texture naturally. There is no risk of the “overfilled” appearance that can sometimes occur with dermal fillers. Results look like your own skin, just healthier and firmer.
Can dermal filler be dissolved but Julaine cannot?
Correct. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase (Hyalase) if needed — this is a safety advantage of HA fillers. Julaine's PLLA microspheres are not reversible in the same way, as they stimulate your body's own collagen production. However, PLLA is biocompatible and biodegradable, and the particles are naturally reabsorbed over 9–12 months.
I have lost volume in my face — which do I need?
This depends on the cause and degree of volume loss. If you have lost facial fat (from ageing, weight loss, or GLP-1 medications), targeted dermal filler may be the most effective first step. If your concern is more about skin quality — firmness, texture, crepey skin — Julaine is likely more appropriate. Many patients have both concerns, in which case a staged combination approach is often recommended.
Which is more suitable for the neck?
For neck concerns, Julaine is generally more appropriate. The neck is an area where dermal filler can carry higher risks due to thinner skin and different anatomy. Julaine's collagen-stimulating mechanism is well suited to improving neck firmness and texture without the risks associated with volumising filler in this area.

Book Your ConsultationWhich is right for you?
The best treatment depends on your individual concerns, skin type, and goals. Here are some general considerations:
- Choose Julaine if your primary goal is long-term collagen stimulation, skin firmness and texture improvement
- Choose dermal fillers if you want immediate volume restoration or facial contouring in specific areas
- Both treatments are injectable and minimally invasive — the best choice depends on whether you need collagen quality or targeted volume
- Many patients benefit from combining both treatments in a staged approach — discuss this during your consultation
This is general guidance only — treatment suitability is always confirmed during a clinical consultation.
