Berkshire Aesthetics is a doctor-led, CQC-registered aesthetic clinic in Maidenhead. All treatments begin with a consultation to assess suitability, medical history, risks and realistic outcomes.

Skin booster vs filler: what is the difference?

Skin boosters are generally used to improve skin hydration, texture and overall quality, while dermal fillers are used more structurally to restore or shape volume in selected areas. They are not interchangeable. The right choice depends on whether your concern is skin quality, volume loss, contour, laxity or a combination.

When this may help

  • Skin boosters may help crepey, dehydrated or dull skin quality.
  • Fillers may help selected cases of volume loss or contour support.
  • A staged plan may sometimes use both at different times.

When this may not be suitable

  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, have an active infection, or have a contraindication relevant to the treatment.
  • You want a guaranteed result or a same-day decision without consultation.
  • Your concern may need medical diagnosis, prescription care or onward referral first.

Risks and limitations

  • Injectable treatments can cause bruising, swelling, tenderness, lumps and infection.
  • Dermal filler has specific vascular risks that must be discussed before treatment.
  • Skin boosters may not correct structural volume loss.

What we assess in consultation

  • Skin quality versus structural volume
  • Facial anatomy and treatment area
  • Medical history and previous injectable treatments
  • Whether doing neither treatment is safer

Can skin boosters replace filler?

Usually no. Skin boosters and fillers address different concerns, although some patients may benefit from both in a staged plan.
