The world's most advanced microneedling systyem

SkinPen

Better skin with SkinPen

SkinPen is the first microneedling device to be FDA approved and is clinically proven to treat facial acne scarring and boost collagen production safely and effectively. The technology uses patented single use sterile needle cartridges which makes the treatment extremely safe and hygienic. Only SkinPen offers patients this level of safety.

What do our patients love?

Patients love the improved skin texture, elasticity, complexion and reduced scarring. SkinPen produces natural results by relying on the skin’s ability to heal and repair itself.

Who is it for?

SkinPen is appropriate for the majority of patients with a relatively short post-treatment downtime and easily managed aftercare.

How does SkinPen work?

Microneedling with SkinPen works by using controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your body’s natural wound-healing process while minimizing cellular damage. These micro-injuries stimulate the fibroblasts which are found in cells and are responsible for producing collagen.

There are three phases to the wound-repair process:

Phase 1: Inflammation – By piercing the skin, the body’s immune system is triggered to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow, and begin to create new tissue.

Phase 2: Proliferation – The new granulation cells which are part of the extracellular matrix rebuild the wound.

Phase 3: Remodelling – The new wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

How long does the SkinPen treatment take?

30 minutes before the treatment a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the treated area. The treatment time varies depending on the size of the area treated and can vary between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

What does the SkinPen treatment feel like?

Before the treatment, a topical anesthetic cream will be applied to the treated area to improve the patient’s comfort. Patients typically experience a mild ‘pin prick’ sensation and gentle vibrations from the pen.

How many SkinPen sessions will I need?

The number of treatments needed is dependent on the individual and their skin condition. Usually, a course of 3 treatments will be recommended at 4 to 6-week intervals for optimal results. Ongoing maintenance sessions can help to ensure the results are maintained which can be further enhanced by high-grade medical skincare.

Is there any downtime?

Minimal downtime is present after the SkinPen treatment. You will experience a sunburn-type redness and mild swelling for up to 48 hours after the treatment. Dry skin and flaking may be noticed which may also be followed by tiny scabs in the areas treated, but this will subside within a few days. Your practitioner will recommend an after-care skin routine to help with any downtime from SkinPen.

What are the side effects from SkinPen?

Immediately after treatment, most patients will experience severe redness and mild swelling; this is completely normal and will subside within 48 hours after the treatment.

There is a very low risk of scarring and hyperpigmentation post-treatment. All of these risks will be addressed during the consultation and your therapist will advise you on how to minimise these risks by providing you with essential aftercare, this includes: how to cleanse the skin, which skincare to use, limiting sun exposure and avoiding touching the skin to avoid bacteria entering the skin.

What aftercare is advised?

Patients are advised to avoid the application of make-up for at least 24 hours after the treatment. It is also not advisable to use retinol or any creams which are too active for a week. The patient will be given a growth factor serum to use before bed and the next morning to hydrate and soothe the skin.

Other aftercare includes:

  1. Avoiding direct sun exposure.
  2. A broad-spectrum sunscreen should be worn daily.
  3. Hot treatments such as saunas/steam rooms should be avoided for 48 hours.
